Hi Nicholas,

I was just curious if you have ever considered a "Use Reduced Redundancy Storage" option for the S3 processing engine? That would be a cool option to have.

Just a thought for you.

Best,

Matt

This is an option you can set bucket-wide. Why add complexity? Besides, that's not really recommended. Your backups may get corrupt in a period of a few weeks to a few months and then it won't be my fault that they restore no more ;)

Ah, I didn't know that we can set this option bucket-wide. I admit that I'm newer to S3 and read that it had to be done on an object basis, typically with an application that is automating the upload.

I agree about not adding complexity when it's not needed. I'm a big fan of simple solutions.

That's an interesting point about the backups getting corrupted. I wouldn't have thought that would be a likely possibility with their stated 99.99% data availability of the RRS (vs 99.999999999% for the standard), but why risk it.

Thanks again!

I can not find an option on AMAZON S3 to define a bucket as RR, however I see the option for each object.

Can anyone help?
Thanks

Yes, it looks like Amazon's marketing blurb is a bit misleading. You can not set it per-bucket, you can only set it per object (file). So, here you go, I added an option to use RRS in the latest developer's release. However, I strongly recommend against using it for critical websites as it increases the chance of backup corruption or even complete loss!
