Hello,
We've been using JoomlaPack for all our customers Joomla 1.5 sites (an invaluable extension, THANK YOU). With Joomla 1.6 RC1 out, we are starting here as well (and subscribed to Akeeba PRO).
But are we overlooking something?
Frontend backup used index2.php on Joomla 1.5, and this is all we could find in the documentation as well - but index2.php is no longer existing in Joomla 1.6
So how do we setup the frontend backup system in the new Joomla ?

Kind regards

In retrospect, use of index2.php was an oversight. The front-end backup works just fine with index.php as long as &format=raw is appended to the URL. If memory serves, here's what happened. The original JoomlaPack documentation up to and including version 1.2 used index2.php because the software was also running on Joomla! 1.0 where AFAIK format=raw wasn't defined. When JoomlaPack went Joomla! 1.5 only with its 2.0 release the documentation was partially updated, including format=raw but omitting to change index2.php to index.php. This oversight was carried forward up to this version.

I am now updating the documentation and altbackup.php to use index.php. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the quick answer and solution.
implementing this, we get the following error:

Fatal error: Class 'JParameter' not found in /home/.../httpdocs/components/com_akeeba/controllers/backup.php on line 121

can you give us a hint here as well?
kind regards

It looks like the PLT screws us once again. The JParameter was supposed to be a deprecated feature, i.e. it should be available in Joomla! 1.6 and removed in 1.7 or 2.0. Looks like the decided to remove it in 1.6 without any prior warning. Of course this means that you will have to wait a bit until I rewrite the entire part which interfaces with the component's parameters for Akeeba Backup 3.2. Maybe I will just roll my own framework and make Akeeba Backup completely independent of the unreliable and ever-changing Joomla! API...
