I have a site that has Akeeba Backup Pro and Lazy Backup installed and it has gone down 3 times in the last 3 weeks (500 Internal Server Error). I have been working with my host to try and figure out the problems and get the site back up and each time the problem has been that the directory permissions of my public_html folder have been changed to 777. When they are changed back to 755, the site is restored and I'm back in business. However, this keeps happening and I can't figure out why... but I did notice something rather strange. The site went down again a few hours ago and I recall seeing an email coming through earlier this evening that said LazyBackup had just taken a backup or maybe it was a notification from Dropbox that a new file had just been uploaded (i.e. the backup). That suddenly got me thinking and I looked in my Dropbox and noticed that approximately the same time as the sites went down, LazyBackup had done its magic and backed up the site. Could this be related? It seems far too coincidental for it not to be.
The only other change was that the site was under a temporary name (IP address/~account) as it was under construction and shortly before the website went down the first time the DNS records were updated to point to the new site. Could this be related?
Around the same time I also upgraded to Akeeba Pro 5.1.3 - maybe another factor? I've just upgraded to 5.1.5 so I'll see how that goes but I wanted to get your feedback on the possibility of your script(s) being the culprit for changing my permissions and bringing my website to its knees.
If you like I can do a backup of the site using 5.1.5 and see if the problem persists... but should I do a backup using Akeeba or wait for Lazy to run its course. Of course I would rather not have the site go down again if this is unecessary.
Thanks
Rikki
