To whom it may concern,

I am trying to restore my Joomla website using Akeeba Backup Pro. Our website is currently hosted on Linux and we would like to restore our site on Windows 7. After a successful backup using your tool we are able to log in to the back end but receive a restricted access error message when trying to access the front end. I would have made a support ticket for this issue but your link is broken. Please help.

Regarding the restoration, there are lot of configurations which may be incompatible across hosts. I suggest first reading and following the advice on the last few pages of our Quick Start Guide.

If this doesn't help, you have to make sure that all files were transferred from live to local. If you have a multi-part archive you need all the archive parts (.jpa, .j01, .j02, etc) for a successful site restoration. Do note that the restoration script will run even if not all of your files are extracted. If all the files have been extracted, try downloading the files from your site to your local copy using FTP, not overwriting any existing files. If you see anything being actually transferred this is a strong indication that Akeeba Backup encountered unreadable files and/or directories. In that case, the backup should have warned you and you need to change the permissions of such files using FTP, take a new backup and restore it afresh.

If all else fails, you can send me a PM with the URL and Super Admin details to your live site so that I can produce a backup, download it and see what is going wrong. Sometimes there are some extensions (like OSE Anti-Hacker) which hack the core Joomla! files in such a way that makes it impossible to transfer your site not just to another host, but even to another directory or subdomain.
