After the 1st fail I searched and found the mention of re-setting the tmp folder in http://www.akeebabackup.com/index.php?option=com_agora&task=topic&id=24654&Itemid=187. So I reset to SITETMP...and tried again--failed. So I read some more and tried using IFRAME instead of AJAX -Failed- I have attached all three logs but I will have to run it again to get the exact line of the error. I'm not sure if it was 184. Let me know if the logs are enough of if I should run it again.

At least I hope I am uploading the logs. I added them using the "Attachments" text below this box but I am not seeing anything that suggests that they are ready to upload. ??? Here goes!

Hi nurbz,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues. I'm sorry, but the logs didn't get attached. When you click on attachments you should see a popup dialog where you can upload your files. Once you upload the files and they are shown in the
My Uploads list you can look to the far right of each file and see a green check mark, click on the check mark and you should now see the file inserted into the textbox just like a link. :=D Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Stephanie

I thought I would add a bit more information: Local install of xampp is on an laptop with Windoze XP Pro SP3. Also have Avast free version installed as well as Comodo free version but the laptop is not connected to the net unless I want to update OS and security programs......and upload a SUCCESSFUL Akkeeba backup to my new VPS hosting plan.

user14221
Tried again after resetting "default" output and tmp directories ti absolute paths. UP loading output error text and backup.log file in zip file. ##text##

Which version of PHP are you using on XAMPP? I've seen that error before, but the conditions to trigger it are still unknown.

Here are the specs for xampp 1.7.3

* Apache 2.2.14 (IPv6 enabled) + OpenSSL 0.9.8l
* MySQL 5.1.41 + PBXT engine
* PHP 5.3.1
* phpMyAdmin 3.2.4
* Perl 5.10.1
* FileZilla FTP Server 0.9.33
* Mercury Mail Transport System 4.72

I have shut down Comodo firewall and Avast AV to try again but first I wanted to ask if there are any "recommended" settings I should use, ie: Advance Config, Quota Management, Fine Tuning

For XAMPP you can leave the default settings. On Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit it works like a charm with them.

SUCCESS!! I wonder if it was Avast or Comodo causing the backup to fail.

Can you please explain what STATUS: "Obsolete" means. I tried to search it on the site but the search results landed me on 404 pages.

user14221
Never mind about the "obsolete" files. I found out from other post that this is an 3.0 to 3.1 upgrade issue

Yup, that's true, it's the upgrade thing.

I find your results with Avast and Comodo very interesting. It looks as if the latest versions of most free antivirus applications cause all AJAX calls to fail. I wonder why this happens...

"It looks as if the latest versions of most free antivirus applications cause all AJAX calls to fail."

Is this going to be a problem with extracting a site to a live VPS hosting plan if I am doing it with a "protected" computer?

Yes. We have now positively identified AVG's link protection to be consistently messing up the AJAX calls made by all of our software. I am working on a potential workaround, but it'll take me a few days to be sure that I've positively dealt with it. I suggest trying to temporarily turn off this feature of your antivirus while you are extracting the archive and restoring your site, then turn it back on.

And trying to make everything better :) The AVG issue is driving me nuts. AVG's Link Checker is way too invasive, as it intercepts all AJAX calls and all Javascript function calls (good gracious!). In the way it operates it causes huge problems on any time-sensitive procedure, like the backup process. The only workaround I've found is to disable this feature and reboot the PC. Too bad AVG didn't include an opt-out list for domains to not protect with Link Checker :(

Can you send me a PM with Super Admin login info to your site? This will allow me to find the root cause of the problem and resolve it. Thanks!

user14221
How would I set that up with a local Xampp install of my site?

user14221
Tried a new profile (for fun) no luck.

It seems to fail around the same time each time so I watched and took note. ...failed while backing up files in XAMPP\htdocs\......plugins\editors\tinymce\jscripts\tiny_mce\plugins\searchreplace\........??....there are other folders here but I didn't see them display before the fail

suggestions?

I can see this in your log:
DEBUG |101011 20:06:07| -- Loaded stored Akeeba Factory

DEBUG |101011 20:06:19|====== Starting Step number 55 ======

Not the 12 second lag? This should only take half a second at most, but you are using Windows, the Operating System with the most inefficient disk caching system ever devised. What happens is that Windows is flushing its disk caches at this point, putting everything to a grinding halt, causing a PHP timeout error. The only workaround is modifying the max_execution_time in your php.ini to read:
max_execution_time=90

Save the file and restart XAMPP. When you try to backup again you'll see the progress bar going well into the red region while backing up your site, but it shouldn't time out. If this still doesn't help, try bumping up the number to 180, but I have yet to see a Windows system which takes more than one minute to flush its disk caches :)

It goes without saying, but I assume that you do have enough disk space on the hard drive where your output directory is to store the backup archive. Right?

You can mark this thread SOLVED!
Increasing the max_execution_time in the XAMPP php.ini to read: max_execution_time=120 did the trick. I just ran a successful backup with both Comodo internet Security and AVAST AV running.
VERY COOL!
