Checked my backup this morning and see a critical update. I come to check it out and it is listed as beta. I do not install Beta on a production website and am wondering if this is common to list a Beta update as critical? What are the implications of installing a Beta on a production site?

The update is not marked as "critical" (well, not in the official English translation at least), it is merely marked as "Upgrade available". Our betas are well tested and can normally be used on live sites, however - as we always suggest after upgrade - test your backups produced with the beta. If the beta doesn't work properly for you please report your issue here so that we can solve it. Of course, you have the option of rolling back to the last stable release if all else fails.

I misinterpreted it as that when I saw it flashing in the admin area. I am just use to things that flash there as a sign of needing my immediate attention. I have several sites that are not deemed critical and will do usability testing for you on them. Thanks for the reply and clarification on this..

Yes, it's flashing because nobody was paying any attention on previous iterations where it was static :)
