hello,

is there a way to check the integrity of the backups? Is it posible to do it offline?

What are some suggestions or best practices.

The only way to be absolutely sure that a backup is good is to restore it on a server. If you can open or extract all the files locally, that will give you a warm, fuzzy feeling, but it doesn't prove the backup is good.

Setting up a local server for testing purposes is not nearly as difficult as it used to be. The WAMP and MAMP stacks are widely available and any Linux distro has a LAMP stack available in its repositories. You do have to be careful of some of these (WAMP and Ubuntu for sure) that ship with php 5.3.x as the default. On WAMP., you need to download a 5.2.x version from their website and install and activate it. It would be somewhat more problematic on a Linux system.
