Hi,

I recently moved my websites over to a new server and used kickstart to restore them. I'm having problems with a couple of them. When I try to backup it's trying to find a folder from the previous host when packing files which of course doesn't exist and the backup archive fails. This is the folder from the old host that breaks the backup.

/home1/unrfidco/public_html/godshand/administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup/site-*******.com-20100629-130754.jpa for writing. Check permissions and open_basedir restrictions.

Any Ideas?
Thanks
Den

Den,

Step 1 is to visit the Akeeba Control Panel. This is a "magic" location that should stop any backup in progress and delete any leftover temporary files.

We have seen some zombie backups lately that just wouldn't die by the usual steps. :) If visiting the Control Panel doesn't work, you need to manually delete some files out of Akeeba's temporary folder:
You can safely remove akeeba_storage.php, the .sql files and all files whose name starts with jp or ak (these are temp files produced if you use the ZIP format archiver engine).

Thanks Dale that got it... It was the akeeba_storage.php file. I do have a problem with my main domain. ... The last successful backup was May 28 at 26.3 gigs and I've had 8 failed attempts since then. All with ajax errors. I've adjusted the execution times but it still fails...

Any ideas?

Thanks
Den

Den,

Please zip and post your latest log and we'll see if we can get that one working too.

Sorry...

Den,

On a 32 bit operating system, there is a 2 Gb maximum file size for a single backup file. You're a little over that. :D On a 64 bit operating system, the theoretical limit is in pentabytes, I don't think we've tested any that big.

If your server is 32 bit, go to the Akeeba Configuration screen, click the Configure button on the Archiver Engine line. Now drag the Part size for split archive all the way tot he right, 2 Gb. Save and retry your backup. It will now be in 2 Gb chunks.

Hi Dale,

Yes, I'm running on Bluehost and the server is a x86_64. I did get another backup through a few days ago and it came through at 30.4 gig. The problem is I need to backup everything to upgrade to the 1.5.20 for security issues. Is there anything else I can do outside of breaking up the backup?

Thanks
Den

Den,

I'll flag this for Nicholas to see what he recommends.

Is there another backup on the server? If so, try removing it first. Even if your quota is bigger than the total size of your site and all of your backup archives - or if you have unlimited quota - you are bound by the real available disk space of the physical hard disk your account is hosted on.

This is a known limitation of all shared services. For example, a host may put 200 sites with 1Gb limit on a 130Gb disk, on the premise that most sites will consume far less than their quota. If all 200 sites are at 647Mb, the first site which tries to occupy up to 1Gb space will face a problem: the disk runs out of disk space. When you're talking about backups in the range of 30Gb, this can happen very easily. A site of that size and two backups occupy ~90Gb. Given that most hosting-grade hard disks are in the capacity range of 100-150Gb (which must also contain the operating system) it's too easy to start running out of disk space. Maybe you want to check this speculation of mine with your host.
