I'm trying to move website from my computer (localhost) to a GoDaddy website. Can't connect to the database using Akeeba Backup Installer.


I saw in another post that GoDaddy doesn't use "localhost" but I can't find the server host name on GoDaddy. Any advice on where I can find it? Also, what user name & password do I use-- Database username & password? some other.

I called GoDaddy and asked for the host name and was told to use the IP address. Typed in the IP address, entered the database user name, password & database name & got Ajax timeout message with no other information.

Any ideas?

GoDaddy uses this format for their database host names:
x++mysqx++.secureserver.net
When you create a new MySQL dB via GoDaddy's control panel it will assign the "x++mysqx++" portion. Use that in place of the "localhost" parameter.
I'm running out the door so hope this cursory explanation is still of help.

I don't recognize the address format that totalbalance posted, but I have been off GoDaddy for more than a year now. GoDaddy's user name always matched the database name. (I miss that.)

You do need to manually create the user and database before you do the restore. Akeeba never has sufficient rights to create a database on a commercial host, only to restore tables and data to an existing database.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I still can't connect to the GoDaddy host. I am traveling out of the country for 3 weeks and don't have time to delve into this. Do you have any suggestions as to who I could get to figure this out for me? I need to get the website up for my organization.

This would require giving up all the passwords to the site, admin, MySQL, host passwords. Someone within your organization would be the best choice, Is that a possibility?

I am the only person in my organization working on this project and I am out of the country. I think it best if I hire someone to figure this out. If you can recommend anyone, please let me know.

I had the same issue a while back. I have a "Master" Joomla build that I use for building Joomla websites on Godaddy.
Here is the way I do it:
Create a DB in godaddy:
Go to your HOSTING CONTROL CENTER

Click: Databases
Click: MySql
Click: Create Database (Fill in your Description/Name Etc.)
Click Ok
Go Back to MySql It will be there or if you keep adding them like me there will be more than one.
Hover of the "Pencil" on the Action Tab and then click the pencil

All the MySQL Database Information will now appear here. You fill in the Akeeba Installation field with this info so make a note of it.
When you come to install the Akeeba backup installation fill in the details from it.
Don't forget to replace localhost with the new godaddy host name: similar to this:
yourakeebanamehere.db.12345.hostedresource.com

Thank you, Jay. The MySQL server address causes the most problems on GoDaddy. On the cPanel based hosts, it is the account names prefixing the database and user names. "It's always something." :)
