If this answer already exists, please point me to it, having trouble finding using search. Thx.
I'm a newbie to AkeebaBackup, yet really impressed with the Pro version to date. Thx for a great effort.
Challenge:
I'm trying to "clone" my Joomla production server to my localhost on a PC. Although everything seems OK after running the Kickstart.php, when I log on to the admin area, I'm redirected to the production server. When I view the site locally, menu bars, etc. are missing. There are other issues as well.

Rather than go into all the detail, are there detailed directions how to properly backup a production environment (database(s) & folder/files) to easily clone to a local PC "localhost" domain (we're using XAMPP)?

P.S. No issue wiping localhost clean and starting from scratch if that's best ;)

There's an option in your site's configuration.php file called "live_site". This is not updated automatically during restoration, but you are given the option to do so in the second to last step of the restoration process. The "Site Configuration" page has four options on the pane displayed by default. The fourth option is the Live Site parameter. Delete it contents (yes, blank is fine for localhost!).

Another thing you might want to check out is any .htaccess rules which might redirect traffic to your live site. If there are such rules, please comment them out by placing a hash in front of them.

Thanks Nicholas. Everything's working fine now. FYI, it seems one of the root causes of original issues was the FTP layer option. When selected and configured, problems. When disabled AND hashed out, everything was fine.

That was the first time I heard that the FTP layer caused this kind of issues. Thank you for this! I'll have it in mind :)
