Roger,

I'm confused. :( There aren't any errors in your backup log, the backup completed successfully. You didn't mention what sort of problem you're having with the restore.

i get an error when i upload it to another url, then it says there are problems with ajax

what do i do:

i make a backup from site A
then a backup for site B
transfer the backupfile from A to B and rename overwrite it so it has the same name as B

then i try to restore it.

With the old free version this worked

am i doing something wrong?

dlb
Roger,

Now I get it! I don't think Akeeba Pro is smart enough to know you're trying to pull a fast one. :) There are lots of changes to that function from JoomlaPack though. Please give me as much of the error message as possible. That may give me an idea of what is going on.

the error i see is:

The extraction has failed

Extraction of the backup archive has failed.
The last error message was:

Invalid AJAX data:

and then an image of the standard template in joomla

dlb
When you are moving the archive from one server to another, how are you doing it? The best way is via ftp in forced binary mode. ASCII mode will corrupt your archive and auto mode makes your ftp client guess, so you don't know what you're getting. The error message indicates that the archive has been corrupted somewhere along it's journey. Please try your download/upload again. The next step after that is to try to extract the archive on your local computer with eXtract to test the extraction locally.

ok i will try that

let's hope it is only that

I have been treating restoring from the Administer Backups screen as a requirement in this thread. You do know that there are other ways to restore the backup, right?

to be honest, not really

dlb
First of all, we do want to get the restore from the Administer Backups screen working. That feature was re-added late in the alpha series and hasn't been pounded on as much as some of the other new code. If it still won't work after you re-upload the archive, it is time to get Nicholas involved.

The more common way to restore a backup is to use kickstart (from our Downloads page). You upload kickstart.php and your backup archive and point your browser to www.mysite.com/kickstart.php. Kickstart is basically an unarchiver, it extracts the archive and gives you two links. The first is to the installer script, the second is to a cleanup script that deletes your /installation folder, kickstart.php and the backup archive. This approach allows you to restore your backup to a "bare" server, you don't need a working Joomla! to restore the backup.

dlb
Roger,

I'm glad you got the restore done. :) I flagged the thread for Nicholas so he can see if he can figure out what the problem was.

This feature is broken in Beta 2 and is being currently worked on for the stable release. There are some syntax errors and other minor issues. I expect the next developer's release to have a fully working integrated restoration feature. 3.0 stable will certainly do.
