I have done an All DB backup and used the jpa file to restore over another joomla db instance but the data base is not replaced. I have used the Kickstart and a copy of the Installation directories without success.

Do you have any suggestions as to what I should look into?

Could I use the sql file generated by the Main DB backup and run it in the database to accomplish the same thing?

I copied the joomla directory structure with ftp

Juan,

The database only backup can be restored without modification through phpMyAdmin or a similar utility. You would need to drop the existing tables first, then import the dump. The full site backup needs some adjustments to the sql file before it can be imported.
