Hi,

I'm trying to find out why site backups are slow on PlanetHoster World shared servers and also why when I make two backups a few moments or hours apart, the second one is much faster, even when I clear the caches of the Litespeed server and Joomla!

On another site, I compared the backup of the production site and its copy on Wampserver on my PC and a copy on another server (Nuxit Performance 1), see the comparison image.

Is there a profile configuration parameter that could speed up the first backup? I use the wizard and only change the destination folder and possibly the quota.

Thank you for your help!

Best regards,

Robert

Hello,

regarding the different in size between the two installations, that's very small and I think it could be some data being missing in one of the websites. I suspect there's some temporary data (on the filesystem or the database) the is deleted or has not been copied over.

Regarding the speed of the backup, I think that the bottleneck is at the server level. The first time the filesystem cache is empty so it's slow, the second one everything is on the cache and it's faster. That's something we (you and us) can not change, since it's at server level.
Given that the slow backup still runs with an acceptable time, I think that you can ignore that.

Thank you Davide,

I replied this morning but I don't see that reply.

For example, my problem is with a client site for which, a few days ago, the backup took 19 minutes for a jpa of 790 MB. Since then, the time has varied. This morning I compared the times for a backup of Event Booking tables and the folder of images attached to the booking form (635 MB of images), without any other files, and then a full backup of the site.
The first backup created a 611 MB jpa file in 1 min 13 and the second a 797 MB file in 9 min 57, which seems very long to me.

Regrads,
Robert

Hello,

as previously written, this problem is out of reach for both of us. This is something at server level, most likely they are providing resources to your account as you request them. So the first time you have very few resources assigned, then they provide you more since you run more processes.

Please note that this is just a wild guess, you should contact your host for further details.

Thank you, Davide.

I've been talking to the host's support team for a few days now, but haven't found a solution yet.

Robert
