Hello,

I typically use [ROOTPARENT]/backups as the output directly. But, after saving, closing, and then opening again, the directory output has reverted to [DEFAULT_OUTPUT].

Please watch this demonstration:  https://www.loom.com/share/f6a659e531e248f9bbd14ce95c1619c9?sid=516de90c-9a59-453c-8501-9c7d3a73c905

This is new and strange behavior to me. Is there something different I should do?

Regards,

Karen

This behavior has been around since 2010. If you select a directory PHP cannot write to the output directory changes to the default. Otherwise you’d get a backup failure without a log file which would make it impossible for you or us to troubleshoot.

OK, thanks. I should have known this behavior has been around since 2010. The permissions were set correctly so I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I ended up deleting the directory, created a new one and that worked. 🤷‍♀️

It's very likely the problem was ownership. Depending on the host, a folder you create with (S)FTP and a folder you create from the hosting control panel's file manager may have different owners which will affect whether PHP can write into the folder.
