I am not able to remove the old version of Akeeba.

It still needs FOF4, which I cannot install :-)

I guess you didn't read the migration instructions and ended up removing FOF 4 before Akeeba Backup 8. No problem. You can work around that with a "developer's" installation of this old library i.e. it's shown as installed in Joomla!, but pre-August 2021 versions of our software will still see it.

  • Download FOF 4.1.4 from its old repository.
  • Extract the file locally.
  • Rename the extracted fof folder to fof40.
  • Upload the fof40 folder into your site's libraries folder. You will now have a libraries/fof40 folder.
  • You can uninstall Akeeba Backup 8 and any other extension using FOF 4.
  • When you're done remember to delete the libraries/fof40 folder.
