Hi,

It seems that Akeeba products are not working properly when it comes to the update manager. my website is giving Error 504 when checking for updates. Disabling the update manager for Akeeba products seem to resolve this issue.

Any advice?

Talk to your host.

Akeeba Products have a perfectly working updates server, behind Amazon CloudFront. That's a CDN. With regional nodes. Including several in Australia.

The fact that you basically get a timeout means that your host fails to resolve the domain name cdn.akeeba.com to the regional IP address of Amazon CloudFront. This indicates a misconfigured caching DNS server on your host's side. They will need to fix that.
