I backed up a website remotely and installed it on a local server running WAMP. I used Kickstart 8.0.3 to restore it locally. The backend (administrators side) comes up fine. However, if I attempt to go localhost/techinedonline.com it keeps redirecting back to the remote server: https://www.techinedonline.com/techinedonline.com. I've looked everywhere to figure out how to redirect the front end to the local directory but can't find it anywhere (configuration.php and php.ini)  Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to rebuild the website locally and when it is complete transfer back to the remote site once I've made all of the changes.

Hello,

can you please replace your current .htaccess file with Joomla default one?

I'm about ready to give up. I replaced the .htaccess file, and now I can't get anything to work. When I attempt to go to either the frontend or backend, all it wants to do is save the index.php file. I've spent countless hours attempting to get this to be restored locally. My hope was to keep the website up and live while rebuilding the site locally and later restoring it remotely. I've attempted to start from scratch several times, deleting all the tables in the database, putting the backup file, and kickstart.php (of course, renaming this file) each time it ends in frustration.

Just to be sure: did you replace your current .htaccess file with Joomla default one in your restored website?

While you're visiting your site locally, you get prompted to download the file instead of executing it and display the content? Please note that this indicates an issue with your webserver configuration, which is allowing users download the files instead of executing them.

You would have the same exact issue even if you manually transferred the files using FTP in your local machine.

A quick search on Google provided several results, for example: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6975639/site-saves-index-php-file-rather-than-opening-it-into-localserver-wamp
