I've been using Akeeba Backup for a long time, dating back to at least Joomla 2.5 or even before. Now that I'm on Joomla 4 I see may versions of FOF. Which of these can I safely remove?

I would expect all except the version 4. Is that true?

Actually, as far as Akeeba software is concerned, you can remove all of them. You can also remove the FEF file package as well.

We no longer user FOF and FEF for our Joomla software. We use the native Joomla 4 MVC API and the native Joomla integration with Bootstrap 5.

When I update to Akeeba Backup 9 and deinstall version 8, I get this message:

You have 2 extension(s) depending on this version of FOF. The package cannot be uninstalled unless these extensions are uninstalled first.

How do I know which extensions are still depending on FOF? Apparently Akeeba can detect something.

You can just ignore that. It's a side-effect of the way some old extensions are uninstalled. You can remove FOF and FEF after uninstalling Akeeba Backup 8.
