The issue is that when I setup the remote FTP server, the Test FTP connection always fails even though the ftp works just fine in the backup. Just thought you might like to know. I get an error message saying it cannot login to FTP server as well as showing not only the username but also the password in clear text.

The username and password are saved in cleartext, otherwise they could not be sent to the server to authenticate. They are relayed back to you when the FTP test fails so you can check that you have typed them correctly. The observation was that most of the times that's what the problem was — especially with long passwords typed by hand (I use a password manager to avoid this and a litany of security issues, but not all people do).

I really need to know exactly which version of Joomla! and Akeeba Backup you are talking about, though. Kindly keep in mind that "latest" is too vague to be useful in troubleshooting. Thank you in advance!

It appears that the Passive Mode flag is not communicated when you click on the Test FTP Connection button. Please install and use this dev release which is just 8.3.2 plus the fix for this issue: Version 8.3.2-dev202306150839-rev931e9a40
