No. Why can I click into the Subject Field and enter text but not in the Message Text field? https://prnt.sc/uL1EM-qU1K8S
The subject field is a simple text field (input element with type="text"), the message text field is an editor which needs JavaScript to work.
I have tried reproducing your issue without success.
I am certain it is something on your end, I just don't know what it could be.

When you mentioned the word editor it got me thinking and I changed the editor from JCE 2.9.32 to Tiny MCE and the issue went away! I am sorry to have wasted your time!
Do you think this is a bug in JCE 2.9.32 and needs reporting?
I am replying to you using JCE. So… I don't think so.
I believe you just need to set up JCE to be usable by Guest and Registered users, like we've done here and documented e.g. https://github.com/akeeba/engage/wiki/Setting-up-your-HTML-editor#jce

When trying to edit the Default profile I get this message: Out of range value for column 'checked_out' at row 1
When I try and create a New Profile I get this message: Save failed with the following error: Field 'checked_out' doesn't have a default value
