Can we transfer on the same server the backup from domain to subdomain or vice versa using akeeba
Everybody will be able to see its contents. Do not include usernames, passwords or any other sensitive information.

yes you can, but there are a couple of different ways to do that.
First of all, you can try to use the Site Transfer Wizard, but I'm not sure if it will allow you to work on the same domain (even if it's a subdomain). We put that protection in place to avoid people accidentally overwriting the main site.
