> but my subscriptions only show the version 8
I don't understand what you mean with this. You do not subscribe to a version of the software. You subscribe to the software. You have an Akeeba Backup for Joomla subscription, you can access all versions we've ever published and have available on our site, from version 3.2 for very old Joomla 1.5 sites we have stopped supporting ten years ago to the latest Akeeba Backup 9 for Joomla 4.
The My Subscriptions page only shows products you are subscribed to, not versions. If you mean the My Downloads area in the My Subscriptions page — this will be removed as it can only show ONE download link. Currently we have TWO download links for each of our Joomla software, one version for Joomla 3 and one version for Joomla 4. Which of these two links will be shown in the My Subscriptions page is kinda random: it will be the last version uploaded when we push releases out. That area in the My Subscriptions page is an anachronism, dating back to the days we only had two products (Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools), available for a single Joomla version (at the time 1.5). This no longer makes any sense.
To download our software you need to go to our site's Downloads page. That's the canonical place for downloads.
> what do I need to do? I see my download ID appears different on my web site.
Update it with the Download ID you see on our site.
> I am indeed able to do backups, but cannot get authenticated to do my backup to DropBox
That would be because of the wrong Download ID you have on your site.
