Please look at the bottom of this page (under Support Policy Summary) for our support policy summary, containing important information regarding our working hours and our support policy. Thank you!

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Couldn\'t write to the archive file; check the output directory permissions and make sure you have enough disk space available. [len=589032 / 1048576]

Thank you for your help.

The log URL you gave me returns a 404 error but I really don't need to look at the log for this one. The error message already contains the information we need.

As the message says, please check that your have enough free space in your hosting account. Do not trust the information displayed in the hosting control panel. First of all, it typically updates once every several minutes or hours. Second, it does not take into account limits your host may have placed on your user account about either the maximum number of directory entries or the maximum file size on your user account.

About the latter, you can try going to the Configuration page, find the Archiver Engine row, click on Configure and set a Part size for split archives to a lower value, e.g. 10Mb. If that doesn't help then you are indeed running out of permissible or physical disk space on your hosting account, something only your host can help with (basically: their server, their rules when it comes to disk space usage).

Important note: what I said also applies to hosts which claim to provide "unlimited" disk space. We have seen time and again that "unlimited" either means a relatively high but finite limit (e.g. 1Gb) or space handed over in smaller increments (e.g. 256Mb at a time) and a requirement for you to justify your request for more space every time you need it. The reason is simple: there's no such thing as an infinite capacity hard drive. Even when combining several HDDs and SSDs to a storage pool the host still needs to pay for these physical devices holding data. They can't give you an unlimited number of storage devices for a fixed, nominal fee; they'd go bankrupt in mere weeks.
