Description of my issue:

Good morning. After the recent updates and despite the Backup On Update plugin being properly enabled it doesn't work and has disappeared from the notification bar.
Can you help me?

This has already been fixed in version 8.0.4, released last week.

Thanks for the quick reply, but despite the update of both Joomla and Akeeba Backup, the problem persists

Please do note that since several versions ago the behaviour of the Backup on Update plugin has changed. It no longer displays an icon on every single backend page because a. it makes no sense (it only does something in the Joomla! Update component) and b. Joomla 4 has introduced the kind of changes which make it impractical to outright impossible to continue offering the same icon on all admin pages. Instead, we display a message at the top of the Joomla! Update page stating the status of the Backup on Update feature (default: enabled) and giving you a button to toggle it.

Neither your screenshots show what happens in the Joomla! Update page when Joomla! has detected an update to itself. Therefore I cannot conclude whether the Backup on Update plugin does or does not do anything on your site. All I can tell you for a fact is that all of the development, test and live sites I own and another dozen users have observed that by installing version 8.0.4 the message does appear in the Joomla! Update component's page and the backup runs before they update Joomla to a new version using the Joomla! Update component.
