I have done everything advised in ticket 35062, and unpublished the installer as mentioned in ticket 35074, but I'm still getting the message "Error connecting to the server: 403". Re-published the installer.

Also, the "available updates" page is now showing the update of FOF 4.x from 4.0.4 to 4.0.5 twice.

Thanks.

If you have followed the eighteen step process I linked to in 35062 AND you have re-published the installer plugins but you are still getting a 403 it means that you are entering the wrong Download ID in Akeeba Backup.

Log into our site and click on Add-on Download IDs in the menu right under our logo. It takes you to https://www.akeeba.com/download/official/add-on-dlid.html You will see your Download ID there. Follow the eighteen step process once again using the new Download ID.

If you still have a problem you have found an issue in Joomla's extensions updater I have never run into before (very likely a caching-related issue, since caching seems to be causing it to misbehave). This is very likely to be the case since you are seeing a double update for FOF. In this case you can download Akeeba Backup 8.0.4 and install it on your site from Extensions, Install, Upload & Install.

Finally, please note that Joomla itself is responsible for detecting, downloading and installing updates. Since 2017 we, like all third party Joomla extension developers, are explicitly forbidden from providing our own updater code on pain of being permanently delisted from the Joomla Extensions Directory. If you have a problem with updates you need to report it to the Joomla Project. I have already done that and they seem to ignore me. Maybe if they started receiving a torrent of issue reports they might finally start working on it. Ten years too late, but better late than never...

Thanks!

I did check the dlid before starting the 18-step process (but I'll check again).

No time to tackle this now, will continue tomorrow.

One other question, though: if I do a download&install, will that solve the problems? I have 24 sites with this problem, so a download&install might be faster and more foolproof anyway...

The download and install will work inasmuch you will be updated. After doing that you should still go to Akeeba Backup's Control Panel page so the code that fixes the extra_query in the #__update_sites table gets the chance to run and fix your database for future updates. If possible, publishing the Installer – Akeeba Backup plugin on each site (rewritten as of 8.0.3 in a way that can no longer cause any kind of conflicts when installing updates) would help further avoiding any kind of issues.

Thank you.

I'm assuming I don't need to do anything when I go to the Control Panel after the download&install? I'll be going to the Control Panel anyway, to run a backup.

I've only done this on one site so far, and it seems the Installer plugin is already published.

Cheers,

I've done three sites now (download&install 8.0.4, update Joomla, run a backup).

Two of them showed the new "Backup on Install" message, but one of them didn't.

Oops, please disregard that last message (about a site not showing the Backup on Update message).

It seems I had unpublished the BoU plugin.

Sorry.

I'm assuming I don't need to do anything when I go to the Control Panel after the download&install?

Correct. Visiting the Control Panel runs the code which takes care of applying the Download ID to Joomla's #__update_sites table. Now that the core Joomla bugs which caused it to be lost are addressed that's all there should be to it.

It seems I had unpublished the BoU plugin.

No worries :) It happens to all of us. Running four development sites on each of three different development machines I've done that mistake too.
