Just updated from Joomla 3.9.25 to 3.9.26 and noted that the automatic pre-installation backup was skipped. Last Joomla update the backup ran ok.

Is this a known problem?  I have a number of other sites to update and would like to pre-empt the problem if it is a general one.

So far as I am aware I have not changed any Akeeba settings

This is a known issue. You can run a backup manually before running the Joomla Update.
