EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Hi,

I do run Akeeba Backup on a lot of site - all without ANGIE Passwort:

https://monosnap.com/file/SlcOoGprqVvslyai0oOM5fqrwDABO4

On some site, I do get this hint, that a ANGIE passwod is set:

https://monosnap.com/file/TqLNMDT9njhXvqox6dLxxTKcAtroY7

This is on Firefox and Chrome.

- How can I make sure that a password is not needed for Backup?

- What am I missing anyways?

Thanks for any hint.

Kind regards

Bernhard

The ANGIE password field is marked "do not autofill" but the browser isn't respecting that.  It's trying to be helpful and filling in the password field.  Sometimes it is the browser itself, sometimes it is a password manager browser plugin.

The ANGIE password isn't really intended for security, it is more to keep someone from starting your restore on your site while you're still trying to upload.  It can by bypassed fairly easily.

Hi Dale L. Brackin,

thanks for the quick response. - This somehow makes sense.

So what would you suggest? Use a simple default password?

Best,

Bernhard

If you are not using your browser to store passwords, turn that function off.  That should prevent the browser from being so "helpful".

If there are settings in the browser that you can use to tell it not to try to fill in the password for Akeeba Backup, that should help.

The problem is worse when using the "Backup Now" button in Akeeba because you don't even see the password field then.  If you use the regular menu at least you can see when the browser fills in the field and you can manually clear it. Programmatically we have done as much as we can to try to tell the browser that field is off limits.
