Please look at the bottom of this page (under Support Policy Summary) for our support policy summary, containing important information regarding our working hours and our support policy. Thank you!

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

This installation is running on AWS Lightsail.  I am able to update/install other packages, but Akeeba Backup Pro gives the following error:

Warning Joomla\Filesystem\File::delete: Failed deleting inaccessible file 01.basic.json Package Update: There was an error installing an extension: com_akeeba-pro.zip Before updating ensure that the update is compatible with your Joomla! installation.
You are strongly advised to make a backup of your installation before you start updating.   This is a migration from a shared hosting environment.  The shared hosting update works just fine, so I assume this is something to do with ownership (maybe!)

You are correct. Joomla, whose code performs the installation, complains that it cannot delete a file. So it's something between ownership and permissions of the files and folders.

Thanks for the quick response.

Do you have any suggestions or thoughts?  I have successfully updated both Joomla & other extensions.  I would love to continue using Akeeba Backup, but I dont know how to 'fix' this.

I have not used Amazon Lightsail myself but their documentation makes it sound like it is a bog standard Linux virtual machine with the Bitnami LAMP stack. I assume you can SSH into the virtual machine, find the root of your hosted site and change the ownership of the files and folders to whatever user your LAMP stack is using, permissions of folders to 0755 and permissions of files to 0644.

That's as far as I can go. We do not provide hosting support, more so on servers we have not set up ourselves. If you do not feel confident enough with server management to manage your own server you should be looking into more standard hosting on a traditional hosting provider. All these self-hosting solutions are only really meant for people who are familiar with managing servers and would much rather put their time instead of their money into managing a server.
