EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

We are running joomla (1.5.26) and akeeba backup pro (3.3.a3) in a live environment. Stop laughing!

I want to move our live website to my local machine. to get the website going locally, I...

1) did a backup of joomla, and copied the backup file locally.

2) I installed joomla 3.9 locally.

3) I installed akeeba backup pro (V 7) locally.

Should i be able to restore the old joomla version from the backup file, over-top of my current installation.

You feedback and advise is appreciated.

David,

You can't restore a Joomla! 1.5 site over a Joomla! 3.9 site. It just won't work. There have been files moved from one folder to another over the years so you end up with two files of the same name, one in the old place, one in the new place. Which one executes depends on how Joomla! looks for the file.

What you need to do is delete your 3.9 installation and copy your backup archive and kickstart.php to the root of your local server. (Kickstart Core is best for this particular job.)

Next, execute kickstart to extract your archive. When kickstart finishes, it will pass control to the installer, which is embedded in your archive.

When you get the site restored, you can start the upgrade process. I'm not even sure where to start on that with a starting point of 1.5. Good luck!
