Please look at the bottom of this page (under Support Policy Summary) for our support policy summary, containing important information regarding our working hours and our support policy. Thank you!

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Just curious. Site is quite big with photos and movies.
Backup is only 42.82 mb.
Is this normal?

dlb
No, that doesn't sound right. 43 Mb is a fairly small backup.

Load your backup log into a file editor, then search for the word "skipping". What that will give you is every file and folder than is not included in your backup. And it will also give you the reason it was skipped.

mostly "Skipping dumping data of ... " and then "Done dumping..."
i did an extract wizard and the 42 mb became 180 mb.
another site that's 3 gb normally becomes 600 mb after akeeba backup is run.
maybe this is ok afterall?

dlb
I wouldn't expect that kind of compression. Depending on the photo and movie file types, they may already be compressed so you wouldn't get any further compression from the backup archive. I can't think of any way for a file to be skipped without leaving a "skipping" note in the log. Even the automatically skipped folders (tmp, log, etc.) leave a skipping note.

The way to be SURE is to set up a subdomain and restore the site.

it's up and running just fine.
i'm amazed and overjoyed at this.

thanks for your help.

You're welcome! I'm glad we were able to confirm the backup.
