Please look at the bottom of this page (under Support Policy Summary) for our support policy summary, containing important information regarding our working hours and our support policy. Thank you!

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
Hello,

Does Akeeba Backup have the capability or is there a hack using which I can take backup of some folder which is other than the folders in the joomla root path?

Joomla root path is /home/<linux user account>/public_html

I want to take the backup of the /home/<linux user account>/mail directory & the /home/<linux user account>/etc directory.

Is there anyway to achieve this in akeeba backup?

The option you're looking for is all the way at the bottom of the screen, "Off-site Directories Inclusion". This will allow you to include a folder that is not a part of your website in your backup.

Be careful what you wish for. The examples you gave are potentially very large folders and may give you trouble with their sheer size. If you back up your website and your operating system folders, you won't easily be able to restore one without restoring everything. And finally, your backup is running under a special "web" user, created by your operating system to run your web server. It is very likely that user will not have rights to access the operating system folders that you listed.

Thank you Dale. Yes, I understand perfectly. With great functionality comes great responsibility and backing up a system folder effectively means that if ever this backup is to be restored, it will have to be done manually. Hence, I am going to create a new profile and schedule this new profile for a separate backup. I just needed a copy to get stored offsite (to gdrive) and thanks to great functionality of akeeba, I now can do this.

Thanks again.
