Hi, I experienced a weird error message when using the [Test SFTP connection] option.

In Akeeba Backup: Configuration > Post-processing engine > Upload to Remote SFTP (SSH) server using cURL

After adding some server credentials, I tried the [Test SFTP connection] button.
It results in the following error (see attached screenshot):

Could not connect to the remote SFTP server. The error message was:
Y

What does "Y" mean? :-)

The test buttons do not go through cURL. You should ignore that result until the next version where the SFTP test code will use cURL when you use a cURL-powered post-processing engine.

Ok, thanks!

btw: I got the same error message "Y" when I try "Upload to Remote SFTP (SSH) server" (so without 'using cURL')

Yes, in both cases the code follows the same path. It goes through the PHP SSH2 module. The response you get is the error message reported by that module. I assume something is broken when it's trying to connect to the remote server. If you use the cURL one do you get an error during backup or only when using the connection test?

Actually, I did not test it with a real backup.
It did not seem logical to me to try to backup after the connection test failed...

Please do and let me know. The connection test in your case may be lying.

In this case the connection test was not lying.
I tested it with doing a backup but got the following error at the end:
Your web server does not have the SSH2 PHP module, therefore can not connect to SFTP servers.

Failed to process file [..]

Post-processing interrupted -- no more files will be transferred

Actually, this is a different bug which I ran into while fixing the bug you originally reported. The SFTP methods don't go through cURL. Hence the error.

Ok, thanks!
I'll try again after next release...
