Is it possible to have a database-only backup which is directly restorable via Akeeba?

It seems that we can run a db-only backup but this creates an SQL file instead of a JPA archive, so we can't then select it for restore via Akeeba.

I have a couple of client who run database imports so was looking to run a db-only backup which could then be easily restored via the Akeeba interface should anything go wrong?

Hello,

I think you can leverage the Site backup mode.
First of all you'll have to exclude all files and folders from your backup, just leave a meaningless file included (for example robots.txt) to avoid any surprises. I think the backup should work fine even if there are no files/folders included, but let's play safe and include at least a dummy file.

Then you can run a backup as usual.

If you ever need to restore the backup, you can do that from the Manage Backups page.
There you'll start the restoration process, where it will restore the dummy file and then guide you to restore the SQL database.

Yeah I thought that might be the best approach to take so can give that a go.

Give that is the case, would it be possible for a future release to include an "exclude all" button on both files and database exclusion config pages (particularly the database one)? The reason being that it's sometimes laborious having to un-select many database tables and folders, whereas if we could, with one click, de-select all of them, then just click to enable the ones we want to include that might save some time?

The Exclude all is already inside the File/Folder management.
Regarding the database, you can easily create a regular expression that matches everything and you'll be good to go.
