Please look at the bottom of this page (under Support Policy Summary) for our support policy summary, containing important information regarding our working hours and our support policy. Thank you!

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

I want to update Jommla! from 3.8.3 to 3.8.5
But I need to backup first.
I have permanent failure after 2/3 of the backup?
Could you please help? What can I do?

Debug Log is attached

Best regards

You can turn off the Backup on Update with the BoU button at the bottom of your screen or you can disable the System - Backup on Update plugin.

But it is not a good idea to update without a current backup and I do not recommend it. Does your back end backup normally complete as expected?

Hello Dale!
Yes till yesterday the Akeeba backup was complete. Of course is it not a good idea to update Joomla without a backup, thats why I ask you to help with the backup problem!
What has the BoU button to do with the backup problem?

Ernst,

It does not make sense to me that backup on update fails and a back end backup succeeds. They are the same code, the same PHP version, the only difference is in how they are triggered. Ah! It isn't the backup process that is timing out, it is the update process that called the backup. That's just a wild guess, I need to talk to the programmers in the morning.

Disabling backup on update doesn't fix the problem, it simply avoids it. If you're in a hurry, you can get by the backup and do the update. If you have a backup from yesterday, or a manual backup from today, you can make that work.

I am completely missunderstood! Sorry!

There is no backup on updtate, it is only the Backup which failed to complete.

After I have a complete backup I will start the update.

This was not really helpfull.
I will close this ticked, sorry
