I respectfully disagree. We are writing a component on taking full site backups. Putting notes in the backups themselves does relate to that functionality and this feature is of course implemented. Putting notes on the control panel page, or changing the colors, or doing all sorts of customizations to it (or any other page) has zero to do with the usability of the software and I am VERY particular in the use of that word. I would argue that your very specific case of not wanting to share information with your fellow admins in any way other than defacing the control panel page -which was redesigned following an extensive and expensive user experience research project- is not only irrelevant to what the product does but also deteriorates the usability by removing the clarity and focus from that page.
I would also like to remind you that no other extension offers that functionality for the same reason. Furthermore, your argument that "nobody reads anything in the control panel", while valid, is not confined to the control panel. This is a general behavior of humans when confronted with an overload of information. Therefore adding a block of seldom-changing text on the control panel page would make admins completely skip it, as well as any other important notifications such as the need to update due to security reasons. What could possibly go wrong? Well, quite a lot. We are trying to remove needless information from the Control Panel to improve clarity, not plaster it with useless stuff.
I insist that the VERY BEST place to share information about the site and server configuration is most definitely outside the main working area of each component. Think about this for a minute. Where do you keep your car's service log? Is it plastered on your windscreen or is it, say, tucked into the documentation pouch you keep in your glove compartment?
Finally, I'd like to remind you that our software follows the Joomla! standards. As such, you can always create a template override for the control panel page. The template override could load the original view template while adding functionality such as rendering specific modules, module positions or bespoke content inside the component main area. However, should you choose to follow the view template route, kindly bear in mind that we are not going to offer any kind of support to issues with regards to the control panel page since we are no longer in control of what is being displayed and cannot take responsibility for using our software outside its design parameters.
