My apologies for asking this simple question but I looked at a couple of pages

What akeeba backup version should be used if the site is Joomla 3.8.1 and php 5.3.29 ?

(I told them to update ages ago - now the host only offers php 7 as an update and I want to make a backup first so need to install Akeeba backup)

Paul,

I didn't think Joomla! 3.8.1 would run on PHP 5.3.x. Our compatibility guide is here: https://www.akeebabackup.com/compatibility.html but it doesn't list that particular combination. I would give 4.7.7 a try.

Minimum version 5.3.10
