Mandatory information about my setup:

Joomla! version: 3.7.2
PHP version: 5.6.30
MySQL version: 5.5.51-38.2
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you) - possibly Hostgator
Akeeba Backup version: 5.4.0 (both core and pro)


Description of my issue:
Akeeba Core has been working fine on the site. I did a backup today and upgraded the site from J3.6.5 to J3.7.2, and upgraded Akeeba to 5.4.0.
Tried to backup again and I noticed these issues:
- In Backup, the Short Description did not automatically show.
- Clicking Backup Now did nothing. No log file created that I can show.


Other possibly useful info:
Went to Configuration > Configuration Wizard: the benchmarking does not start (hangs indefinitely).
Hit Save in Configuration page; does not help.
Hosting space is sufficient.
Re-installed Akeeba core (without uninstalling); no change.
Installed Akeeba backup pro; no change either.
Site is not very large. The last backup before the upgrades was 345MB
Am using updated Chrome. Opened another browser (IE) and the results are the same.
Chrome console does not show anything of importance imo

How can I resolve this?

It looks like you are experiencing a Javascript issue. Most likely this is due to malformed or badly written Javascript code added to the pages of your site by a third party plugin.

In order to provide support for your problem we need to know the exact Javascript error that is thrown. For this reason we would like to ask your to please attach a screenshot of the Javascript console of your browser, taken immediately after triggering the issue you want us to help you with.

Here you can find a friendly reminder on how to open the Javascript console:
  • Chrome Press either CTRL + SHIFT + J (ALT + CMD + J under Mac) to open the "Console" tab of the Developer Tools.
  • Safari Press CTRL + ALT + I (ALT + CMD + C under Mac) to open the Web Inspector. Note: This works only if the "Show Develop menu in menu bar" check box in the Advanced tab of the Preferences menu is checked!
  • Firefox Press CTRL + SHIFT + K (ALT + CMD + K under Mac) then click on the "Console" tab


Please note that we need a screenshot, not a paste of the log text. We have determined that, in most cases, pasting the log text alters the sequence of the function calls, becoming useless for debugging purposes.

Hi,

I can't explain this. I went in to capture the screenshot that you requested and Akeeba s now working perfectly fine! I've not done anything since logging out before creating this ticket; not rebooted, etc. Anyway, I'm happy it's working. Thanks for looking into this. I'm going to close this ticket.
