EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
Package Install: Custom install routine failure when trying to install Akeeba Backup installation package v.5.3.0.b1

I tried 'both' installers from the Joomla backend

You are running a seriously out of date version of Joomla!. The last version of Akeeba Backup that ran on the Joomla! 2.5 series was 4.7.4. You can find that version here: https://www.akeebabackup.com/download/akeeba-backup/4-7-4.html.

This is the backup I just ran with the old Akeeba Backup Pro, attached as a zip file. It's only 315KB zipped

The 4.1.2 version that you have installed will run on the Joomla! 2.5 series. The 5.3.0.b1 version will not.

Update: Per suggestion, upgraded to the latest Joomla version 3.6.5 and then tried to update the Akeeba Backup Pro, same error, wouldn't update. It did allow the update of the Akeeba Admin tools pro though.

Tried downloading the source zip again, and this time it installed, thanks for the suggestion to upgrade the Joomla version, easy as cake to do.
