EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

I use the native chron script to do a complete backup every night that is uploaded to my Sugarsync account. Sometimes the upload to SS goes through and sometimes it appears it does not. When I manage backups in Akeeba, I see on the right hand column under Manage and Download a button that shows Transfer Archive (sugarsync) and the ones that show this show up in Sugarsync as "waiting on changes from other device". Can you advise as to why this seems to randomly happen?

I have exported my Akeeba Sugarsync profile as well as the log for the last backup that did not upload to SS and have attached them here.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

Hello,

looking at your log file it seems you are trying to upload 200+Mb in one shot.
Can you please try to create a multipart archive and try again? I suspect your connection times our or it gets refused by the remote server.
Please set a part size of 50Mb and try again; you can find such value inside the Configuration page, under the Archiver Engine settings.

Thanks Davide. I will try that. I was not splitting it based on this excerpt from the User Manual regarding SugarSync:

"If you use the native CRON mode (akeeba-backup.php), there is usually no time limit - or there is a very high time limit in the area of 3 minutes or so. Ask your host about it. Setting up a profile for use only with the native CRON mode allows you to increase the part size and reduce the number of parts a complete backup consists of."

Sometimes it goes through and sometimes it does not.

When transferring on a remote host there could be several different things affecting the transfer. Since you are experiencing issues, let's play safe and lower the part size.
Let me know if that solves your issue.

Davide,

Just reporting back...I changed the part size to 50 and it seems to be working perfectly now! Thank you!

Davide,

Well, it looks like it is back to acting up. I have my cronjob set to e-mail me on completion and I had not received an e-mail for the last couple of days so I decided to investigate. I went to manage backups and things looked ok to me so I went to Sugarsync to see what it tells me and it shows "waiting on changes from other device" for the last couple of days, indicating failure. I went back to Akeeba on my site it clicked the Sugarsync one click backup that I set up and let it do its thing. It did one part, then failed. However, the top part show success but the warning box shows failure. I then went back to Sugarsync and sure enough, the file it was trying to send shows "waiting on changes from other device".

I am not sure where to go now.

I have attached screen shots of what I saw on three different screens. The first is the warning I saw on the backup. The second is what it shows in the manage backup screen for the one that just failed and the third shows the file on Sugarsync as well as the previous ones that failed. I have also included my log file for review.

Please advise what I should try next.

The error is raised by your cURL library installed on your server.
It seems it is related to the size of the archive, please lower it to 10Mb and try again. I suspect your server exhaust the available memory while trying to upload the backup.

Davide,

I am running on a virtual private server with no other sites on my VPS. The specs for my server are as follows:
Pure SSD VPS2
2560 MB RAM
30 GB RAID-10 Storage
1500 GB Premium Bandwidth
32 CPUs Available, 4 Dedicated

I should have plenty of horsepower to do most of anything I want. Do I need to ask my server administrator to change something so this does not happen? I really much prefer one single file if it is possible. My cronjob runs at 4 am every night which is the slowest time for my site traffic so there should not be a lot of resources used at that time.

Any suggestions I can pass on to my server administrator would be greatly appreciated. My site backups are 250 MB. I go into SugarSync periodically to delete old backups and I really do not want to have to delete 25 files for every day! I usually only get in there a couple of times per month. If it is two weeks before I get in there, I will have to delete 350 files!

Surely with what I am running and your guidance, we can get this to work better! It used to work faithfully until just the last couple of weeks. Not sure what has changed.

First of all let's try to identify the problem.
Can you please try the 10Mb partsize for a couple of days? Does it work?
