EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
Hi, when running a backup I get this message

Backup Halted and Will Resume Automatically

The backup operation has been halted because an error was detected. However, Akeeba Backup will attempt to resume the backup. If you do not want to resume the backup please click the Cancel button below.

The backup will resume in 4 seconds

For your information, the last error message was:

Invalid AJAX data:
Request Timeout

This request takes too long to process, it is timed out by the server. If it should not be timed out, please contact administrator of this web site to increase 'Connection Timeout'.

And then retry s a few times and says

Backup Failed

The backup operation has been halted because an error was detected.
The last error message was:

Invalid AJAX data:
Request Timeout

This request takes too long to process, it is timed out by the server. If it should not be timed out, please contact administrator of this web site to increase 'Connection Timeout'.

Please click the 'Analyse Log' button below have Akeeba Backup analyse its log file for further information.

Following the suggestions of ALICE, our log analyser, may not be enough. The automatic log analyser cannot cover all possible problem cases. We strongly recommend going through the step-by-step instructions in our troubleshooting wizard to easily resolve this issue yourself.

If this doesn't help, please do not hesitate to ask for support in our support ticket system. Do note that you need an active subscription to request assistance through the ticket system. If Akeeba Backup Professional was installed on your site by a third party -e.g. your web developer- please do not contact AkeebaBackup.com for support. Instead, contact the person who installed the software on your site and request assistance to solve this issue. If you do post to our ticket system, please remember to ZIP and attach your backup log file in your post so that we can help you faster.

Please zip and post your backup log file. That gives us the information we need to analyze the problem with the backup. If you have trouble posting the file, for example if it is too big, you can put it on a file service like Dropbox and post a link here.

Thank you

There is nothing very exciting in the log. I can see it retrying the step, but there is no clear reason why the timeout is occurring. It is not a problem with a specific file, the retry triggers at a slightly different point each time.

Please go into Configuration and click the Configuration Wizard button at the top. This will recalculate your timing settings and optimize them for your server. Then retry your backup.

------ BEGIN OF ALICE RAW OUTPUT -----
Timeout while backing up
There is already an issue with the backup engine saving its state. Please fix it before continuing.

Post-processing engine and archive part size
A post-processing engine is found, but no part size is set; this could lead to timeout issues

Fatal errors
The following fatal error happened while taking a backup. Please review and fix it before continuing:
The process was aborted on user's request

But this error is easy. The backup completed successfully, the transfer to your remote FTP server failed. You are trying to transfer a 35 Mb file via FTP in one step. That isn't going to work, you are never going to be able to do the transfer within the PHP time limit.

You need to go to Configuration, on the Archiver Engine line, click the Configure button. Set the Part size for split archive field to to 50. That should be 50 Mb per part. Save and retry your backup. Your backup should now split into 7-8 parts. If they are all transferred to your remote FTP server successfully, you can try higher values until it fails again, then back off a bit. Note that the FTP transfer is sensitive to server load and network traffic between the two servers, so you want a little slack in your size setting. The higher the setting, the fewer the parts and the higher the chance for a timeout. There is no one right answer, trail and error is the only way to find the "perfect" setting.

still failing the Alice says

Timeout while backing up
Error
There is already an issue with the backup engine saving its state. Please fix it before continuing.
Please try setting min execution time to 1, max execution time to 10 seconds (or if the PHP timeout is less than 10 seconds, use 75% of the PHP timeout), runtime bias 75%

If you look at Manage Backups, you should see the latest backup has a green check in the status column. This indicates that the backup completed, but that the transfer did not. If that is the case, reduce the part size again until the transfer succeeds.

If you have a red X in the status column, then we have another backup problem and I need the latest log to see what is happening now.
