EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue: after updating GeoLite2-Country database the backup file was increased with 16Mb from 2,20Mb to 18,37Mb!

Is this increase in size correct? Or did something go wrong?

2.2Mb sounds awfully small for a full site backup! Just Joomla! 3.6 with Akeeba Backup 5.1.2 are between 16Mb and 17Mb (yes, it was about the same with Joomla! 2.5.28 and Akeeba Backup 4.7).

If, however, you mean that your backup increased from 16Mb to 18,73Mb – a size difference of 2.2 Mb – then yes, it's expected. That's the size of the GeoLite2-Country database file. It's a bit over 2Mb and it's already compressed, therefore cannot be shrunk any more.

Dear Nicholas,

There is a little misunderstanding here. The full size of the backup increased from 24Mb to 40Mb due to the size of the GeoLite2-country database update. So the size of the GeoLite2-Country database now is about 16Mb (instead of 2,2Mb)!

So your saying that my GeoLite2-Country database is oversized with 14Mb.

What could be the case here?

Actually, I was wrong. I never download the file manually so I didn't really notice. The database is now about 19.3Mb big. MaxMind expanded the database with IPv6 data. So it really does make sense that your backup grew by approximately 16Mb.
