I checked Google for an answer to my question, but did not find anything similar:
Since the Akeeba upgrades around June I seem to have issues with log files filling up my hosting. I have set rather strict limits for my clients, so this might otherwise not be a critical issue, but I now have many sites that reach their threshold and cause issues. Before June I never had this issue, so it seems this behaviour has changed recently.

It seems the log files now stay there forever. I regularly have to clean up the log files in the administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup folder now.

I set my backups (to AmazonS3) to expire after 5 days, except the one for the first of the month. I would expect the logfiles to expire and be deleted then as well, but they are not. It is also strange that I cannot select the logfiles for expired backups in the Joomla backend (the record is greyed out), but the actual log file for that backup still seems present.

There does not seem to be any funny information in the log, but I still attached a random one just to be sure.

Hopefully you can fix this, and please forgive me if the answer has already been answered earlier ;)

Hello Simon,

what's your value for Obsolete records to keep?
When the record is definitively removed from the component, the log file should be gone as well.

Hi Davide,

This value is currently set to the default of 50, which indeed seems pretty high. I will lower this value and see whether this indeed solves my issue. It's only funny that I only started to have issues on all my sites after years of not even noticing this.
I will let you if indeed the issue is solved.
Thanks,

Simon
