EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue: For several months Akeeba has been reporting php mem_limit is too low, but it is 96M which should be high enough for such a small site. Backups worked fine until I updated to Joomla 3.6, now all five progress bars go green in under 1 second but no backup is made.

Running the configuration wizard gives this message:

"Configuration Wizard Failure
Akeeba Backup detected that your server requires a maximum execution time that is too low to be practical. You are better off switching hosts or asking your host to increase PHP's maximum execution time and lift any CPU usage limitations from your account.
"
I have a test site withe same host, using the same settings and Akeeba works fine. Should I uninstall and reinstall?

Hello Gareth,

Akeeba Backup tries to read the current available memory. So you could get that warning even if you have 1Gb of memory, but only 10Mb free.
Anyway, let's try to manually set the timers. Inside the Configuration Page, please use the following values:
Minimum execution time: 5s
Maximum execution time: 3s
Runtime bias: 50%

Yes minimum is greater than maximum, that's not a typo. That will slow down your backup process, but it should complete.

Thanks David

I changed those settings as suggested and it still fails in the same way. I used phpmemtest to check avialble memory and the result was 23M.

Joomla System Information reports php memory_limit of 24M (local) and 128M (master). It also reports that the php.ini file its using is /etc/php55.ini.d/ , a directory to which I have no access and the host explains can't be changed because of the effect on other sites.

My php.ini in the usual public_html directory

Ok, so your memory limit actually is 24Mb (the local value).
That's too low: Joomla by itself will eat up to 20Mb, and then we have Akeeba Backup running.
You should have at least 32 Mb, but if you have a medium-large site you should definitively have 64 or more Mb.

Fixed at last! I had been editing php.ini but turns out I needed to edit .user.ini too.

Backup completed
