EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
CLI Backup does not complete. Stops about halfway through according to file size, somewhere in the middle of adding the k2 image galleries.

Previous and following CLI backups completed OK. No apparent server error log entries. How can I troubleshoot this?

Host is greengeeks.com

I have followed the steps in this article to no avail: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/abbackup.html

Thanks for your help,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I see one problem:
INFO |160727 13:30:02|PHP SAPI :cgi-fcgi
That means you are using the web version of PHP on a cli backup. You should be using PHP-CLI. That is selected on the command line of your CRON job. The first part of the command is where you are calling a specific version of PHP. You need to ask your host how to call PHP-CLI there.

Another thing to take a look at is the elapsed time on the backup job. Many hosts kill CRON jobs that they think are running too long. Your's runs about 100 seconds. Something else you have to ask your host, are they killing your CRON job, if so, can they extend the time limit?

Are the backups that work of the same site, same profile, trigger, etc.?

Thanks for the quick response Dale! Yes the backups that work are identical. Tuesday and Thursday this week it worked, Wednesday failed, I will find out how to call PHP CLI and modify all my daily cron jobs, but mostly they seem to work with a failure every month or so, over a half dozen sites. I will also check into the possible timeout.

Paul,

I would expect more frequent failures from the PHP version. The CLI version will be a little faster and has different time limitations, so it is worth pursuing.

The CRON time limit issue would be absolutely consistent, it would kill the backup every time it hit the time limit. Backup times can vary somewhat based on server load, etc. but your description doesn't sound like the host killing the CRON job.

Thanks Dale, I'll work on your recommendation. You can close this issue and I'll check back if I run into more frequent problems with the backup.

Cheers
Paul
