Akeeba Backup has received an error from the remote server while trying to upload the backup archive. The error was: No data specified while using site transfer wizard.
I'm posting this because I tried to use this feature several times now but NEVER succeeded. This is quite annoying an do me this feature seems really useless.

It seems that something in the remote server is removing all the POST data send by Akeeba Backup while it is trying to upload the backup archive. This is most likely due to you specifying a domain name which results in a redirection to a different domain name. For example entering example.com when the actual site should be accessed through the canonical domain www.example.com (non-www to www redirection or vice versa) or even an entirely different domain like example.net (e.g. parked domain or multiple domains assigned to the server). It's also possible that your own server or the remote server have a firewall which prevents the requests for uploading the file to go through.

Also note that the Site Transfer Wizard is NOT the only or the recommended way to transfer a site. By its nature it is bound by the restrictions of both the source and target servers. When you try to transfer large backup archives you may run into problems that have everything to do with the server setup.

There are several other ways, including:
  • Use a Part size for split archives less than 10Mb. Ideally use 5Mb. Take a new backup with this setting. In most cases this allows the Site Transfer Wizard to use direct FTP/SFTP uploads to the remote server which usually works more reliably. Of course there are some servers which also block outbound FTP connections or have an unrealistic rate limiting for incoming FTP connections, in which case you just can't use Site Transfer Wizard in lack of any available, reliable method to transfer the backup archives.
  • The recommended transfer method, as seen in our video tutorial. This information is available in the Wizard when you select the Manual option.
  • Using the "Upload to Remote FTP Server" or "Upload to Remote SFTP Server" post-processing engine, ideally in conjunction with the "Upload Kickstart to remote storage" option.
  • Upload the backup archive to Amazon S3 and use Kickstart Professional to download it directly to the new server.
  • Put the backup archive in a publicly accessible web location and use Kickstart's Import from URL feature to download it directly to the new server.
