EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue: Using AkeebaBackup and then Kickstart to restore the image to a local/development machine. Machine is a Macbook.

Copy the .jpa file and the kickstart.php to the directory.
Rename kickstart.php to algkickstart.php.
Issue the command, from a webbrowser, "localhost:8888/lww/algkickstart.php".
Instead of running the file, a download is created with the title of "download".

Note that I have tried this with Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.

Any suggestions?

Update:
When I download and install (using Kickstart Pro) on a Windows 10 machine, all is well.
When I download and install (using Kickstart Pro) on a Mac, the files extract but any attempt to access the kickstart.php file ends in the program downloading the .php file as either "download" or another name.

Further attempts to download and install on the mac have been met with the same problem.

Interesting that it is only the Joomla based sites that do this. My WordPress sites (using Backup Buddy) work every time.

This is not a bash on Joomla. I lean toward it when my customers don't specify and the needs are greater. It is just one more piece of information that doesn't make sense by itself.

Hello Al,

what are you using on your Mac to run your webserver?
I think there is a problem in your configuration, since files are "downloaded" instead of being "executed". You can either fix that in your Global configuration of the server or using the .htaccess file (that's why your Wordpress site is working fine).

I'm working on the logic of this.
.php files are working on everything except joomla files.
This would lead me to believe that the global configuraton parameters are fine. That is, unless there are specific setting in GC for Joomla!. (I don't know where to begin to look.)

The .htaccess file from the live site, once downloaded to the local site, has been removed. (We tried running both with it and without it.) No luck.

To make sure it wasn't the download method messing up the site, I have used both the browser based download and the ftp from the site. No difference.

As my 5 year old granddaughter says, "I'm stuck!" :(

I know there are guys out there using MAMP and Joomla! on a Macbook.

Once again, if you have any clues, I would be most appreciative.

So, are you using MAMP as your local webserver? Is that right?

Yes - MAMP on my Macbook. Machine is just used as a backup location as well as testing out new ideas. Live site is on BlueHost. (No problems on BH).

Ok, the main problem is how your MAMP is configured to server your files.
It is downloading them instead of executing them.
Please apply the following line to the .htaccess file of your site:
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml

You can easily "fix" your whole MAC adding the same line to the httpd.conf file

Thank you for trying to assist.
I have tried this for both files suggested.
No go.

I will try again once the frustration level subsides.

Ok, sadly we can only offer limited support for local installations. As you can see, the restoration works fine, since you can successfully complete it under Windows 10.
There is something off in your MAMP configuration, but you should ask support to their forum.
