EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
I am migrating to a new server running php 5.6. Before moving to the new server, I am migrating my Joomla 2.5 site to Joomla 3.x. And I have a question about whether or not Akeeba Backup 4.1.2 needs to be uninstalled before migrating. I couldn't update to a newer version of Akeeba Backup, primarily because the server php v5.3.26 limitation.

Everything is working fine. I've made a backup on my Joomla 2.5 site with Akeeba Backup and actually "restored" the site to a subdirectory (and a new database) where I will migrate to Joomla 3.x while the old website is still running. I am currently in the process of uninstalling those 2.5 compatible extensions that do not "one-click update" to Joomla 3.x.

Is Akeeba one of those components that I should uninstall and then reinstall the latest version after migrating? Or can I migrate and then update to the latest version of Akeeba Backup? Sorry if this migration info is on the site, but I searched and could not find it anywhere.

One other consideration is that, once I migrate to J3.x, I will be upgrading to Akeeba Pro/Admin Tools. Not sure if this makes a difference or not.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Regards,
Jeff

P.S. - I love this software and have used it many times to backup/restore/transfer to a new server. It has given me so much peace of mind as compared to before using Akeeba.

Hello Jeff,

if you are running Akeeba Backup 4.5.5 you can safely keep it in your site: since version 4.5 Akeeba Backup can run in every Joomla version, from 1.5 to 3.x
So no need to worry, simply take an extra backup, just in case ;)

Thanks so much! Ok, I will leave it in place for the migration to Joomla 3.x, and then I'll install the Pro version over it once it's on the new server.
