Hi! We found out that the JPS backup files need newer Kickstarter Files then the ones we used. We were unable to extract the JPS file, but after using the latest kickstarter files it worked OK again. I read something about new JPS encryption. That probably why this happend.

But the Akeeba Extract Wizard (Windows) is not able to extract the files at the moment. Correct? We have downloaded the latest version and tried it, but it did not work.

Error message: Can't read file header information; your archive is corrupt.

Will a new version be available soon? Or are we doing something wrong and should it work fine?

Kind regards,
Jip

Hello Jip,

Akeeba eXtract is a deprecated software and we won't develop it any further, the correct and suggested way to extract your archives is to use Kickstart.

Hi Davide,

That is a bit disappointing... We would like to be able to extract the archives without having to deploy the on a webserver. Sometimes just to get some data back, of to verify if the backup file is 'OK', meaning it can be extracted.

Does this mean the only way to view or extract files is by putting it on a webserver? Or are there alternative ways to extract JPS files on a windows system? Maybe some other software you know of?

Kind regards,
Jip

No, the only solution is to use Kickstart.
By the way, you can automatically ask Akeeba Backup to check archive integrity while running the backup: simply check the option Archive integrity check inside the Configuration page.
This will perform the extraction without actually writing any file, so you can immediately test if the backup was corrupted or no.

OK, thanks. We will try the option you mentioned. I thinks this will have some impact on our server load. But It does provide some more assurance that a backup file can be used.

Does the option 'Delete archive after processing' (enabled on our websites) have any influence on the 'Archive integrity check' option?

Still, when we would like to restore a specific file from the backup we do need to use a webserver to restore the complete site and the get the file from the server. This can be done of course, but is a bit much work for just getting one file from a backup...

You can delete the archive, the important thing is that the Process each part immediately option should be unchecked.

OK, got it. One more question: Should we be able to see in the backup log that the 'Archive integrity check' is performed OK?

Yes.
If an error occurred the whole backup is flagged "with warnings", in the same way it would happen if the post-processing engine failed.
