Description of my issue:

My question is regarding the new version of Akeeba Backup Pro 4.5.2. I have not yet upgraded from previous version because I want to confirm that I'll be able to extract archives on my Mac before doing so.

In the release high lights I read the following:
"IMPORTANT! Behaviour change. The enryption of JPS archives was improved. As a result you need to use Kickstart 4.1.3 or later and UNiTE 2.0.2 or later to extract JPS archives taken with Akeeba Backup 4.5.2 and later. At this point Akeeba eXtract Wizard DOES NOT support the new improved JPS archive format. No further updates to eXtract Wizard are planned."

I'm sorry but I don't even know the difference between jpa and jps archives. My current backup archives are all .jpa.

How can I make sure that I'll be able to extract site backup archives on my Mac with this new version 4.5.2 of Akeeba Backup? Today I use Akeeba eXtract Wizard but will I not be able to use it in the future then?

Hello Anna,

if you only use .jpa archives you won't have any problems.
JPS archives as encrypted archives, you need to supply a valid password in order to correctly extract them.
