Some files are missing. This happens sometimes when Joomla! essentially screws up and doesn't copy over all of the files when installing or updating a component. This intermittent issue has been occurring since Joomla! 1.5.5, we have all experienced it but the conditions to trigger it are still elusive. I've been chasing that issue for 8 years to no avail. If that was a film noir and I was a cop that would be the one case I could never solve.

Anyway. There is a simple workaround. Download Akeeba Backup Professional 4.5.1 from our site. It's a ZIP file. Go to your site's back-end, Extensions, Manage and use the Upload and Install to install the ZIP file twice in a row, without uninstalling Akeeba Backup before or in between these installations.

If this doesn't work, please download FOF 2.5.1 from https://www.akeebabackup.com/download/fof/2-5-1/lib_fof-2-5-1-zip.zip and install it just like any other extension.

Hi Nicholas,

Many thanks for the ultra high speed reply.

This is my very first experience of this issue since starting with 1.5 many years ago.

In this instance today Akeeba Backup Professional 4.5.1 would not install over the top of its damaged version. I got no response. I tried this a few times with same result.

So I uninstalled it. I hope I've done no harm.

I then reinstalled Akeeba Backup Professional 4.5.1 over the top of itself three times with a good response each time.

I also uninstalled Admintools Pro 3.6.8 because earlier when I tried 'Optimize' it pulled up the front page instead of the progress bar inside the modal window. That was just before Backup did the strange behaviour.

So I completely uninstalled both Backup and Admintools.

I then installed Akeeba Backup Pro 4.5.1 as as normal and did it three times over the top for good measure and each time it acknowledged ok.

Then I made two emergency backups which appeared seamless. One I collected via the browser and the other via FTP.

And the Akeeba Backup Debug Log file was available this time without issue and no error message. (Do you need a copy?)

I then did the same when installing Admintools Pro 3.6.8.

A page I don't recall seeing before opened up asking me to complete questions.

But it did not appear automatically after I reinstalled over the top.

I can identify it as being same as Quick set Up Wizard.

It appears to have default settings but the setting seem to have strong security implications.

I feel I would need to progress slowly & test carefully as subscribers to my site require front end log in.

May I complete this form at a later time and leave it at default settings for a while?
It would appear that, if so, such setting would need to be recorded for future reference.

Thanks again for your fast response and great products.

Akeeba Backup Pro 4.5.1 and Admintools Pro 3.6.8 appear to be working seamlessly as before.

The site appears undamaged.

Thanks again!

OK, it all makes sense. Let me give you a recap.

You seem to have had a server filesystem issue. That explains whey both Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools were broken, you were unable to reinstall over them and had to uninstall before installing again. I'd suggest also checking your free disk space. If it's dangerously close to your quota you'll have many similar issues –not just with our software!– in the near future.

Regarding Admin Tools, since you uninstalled it you lost its configuration. It's advised to use Export before uninstalling and Import right after reinstalling. Since you didn't do that, Admin Tools figured out it's not configured yet and gave you the option to run the Quick Setup Wizard. You accepted that option and that's the "page with questions" you got to. So, it all went according to plan! Our goal was to guide users into configuring Admin Tools easily upon installation.

I'm glad it's all working now! Happy holidays :)
